How to Read a Chinese Tea Product Description Before You Buy
Start with what is actually in the package: the tea type, ingredients, net weight and the seller's product details. A poetic name or a photograph can introduce a tea, but neither replaces the information you need to decide whether it suits you.

Separate the name from the tea
Read the full description instead of guessing from the largest words on the package. Look for the base tea and any stated scenting or added ingredients. For a jasmine tea, ask what tea forms the base if the listing does not say. Do not assume that every product with a similar name has the same recipe, origin or taste.
Check the amount you are buying
Find the net tea weight, then check whether the price covers one pack, a set or an option selected in a menu. A photograph may show several packs or props. Compare equal weights and include the delivery charge when working out your budget. A low pack price does not automatically mean a low cost per cup.
Look for usable brewing and storage details
A practical listing should help you start: leaf quantity, water volume, temperature and time, or a clear way to request guidance. A photograph cannot tell you all of these. Follow the specific product's storage instructions. If a date or grade term is unclear, ask the seller what it means for this item instead of comparing unrelated labels as though they used one scale.
Resolve missing information before ordering
Send a short question containing the exact product name and selected size. Ask for the missing fact, not a general promise that the tea is good. If an origin, harvest, ingredient or certification claim matters to your decision, look for a clear statement and supporting information. This is a shopping checklist, not a certification assessment or a guarantee of authenticity.
Quick checklist
| Check | Question to answer |
|---|---|
| Contents | Which tea and which stated ingredients? |
| Quantity | What net weight and how many packs? |
| Preparation | Which instructions apply to this exact product? |
| Uncertainty | What should the seller clarify before purchase? |
Common questions
Can a beautiful photograph prove the origin?
No. Treat photographs as illustrations of the listing and seek explicit product information for claims important to you.
Should I buy the largest pack for value?
Only if the quantity fits your use and budget. Compare delivered costs and expected use rather than pack price alone.

Read the weight and preparation details on the Zhang Yiyuan Biluochun green tea, 250 g and the Zhang Yiyuan Moli Chunfeng jasmine tea, 250 g. product pages. Compare each listing on its own terms; these are examples to inspect, not claims that the teas taste alike.
